COUNCIL DECISION (EU) 2025/490

on the conclusion, on behalf of the European Union, of an Agreement on the participation of the Republic of Croatia in the European Economic Area, and of three related agreements

THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION,

Having regard to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, and in particular Article 217 in conjunction with Article 218(6) and the second subparagraph of Article 218(8) thereof,

Having regard to the Act of Accession of the Republic of Croatia, and in particular Article 6(2) and 6(5) thereof,

Having regard to the proposal from the European Commission,

Having regard to the consent of the European Parliament (1),

Whereas:

(1) The Agreement on the participation of the Republic of Croatia in the European Economic Area (‘the Agreement’) and three related Additional Protocols, namely (a) the Additional Prototcol to the Agreement between the Kingdom of Norway and the European Union on a Norwegian Financial Mechanism for the period 2009-2014 consequent to the participation of the Republic of Croatia in the European Economic Area, (b) the Additional Protocol to the Agreement between the European Economic Community and Iceland consequent to the accession of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union and (c) the Additional Protocol to the Agreement between the European Economic Community and the Kingdom of Norway consequent to the accession of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union (‘the related Protocols’) were signed, on behalf of the Union, on 11 April 2014, in accordance with Council Decision No 2014/343/EU (2), subject to their conclusion.

(2) The Agreement and the related Protocols should be concluded,

HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION:

Article 1

The Agreement on the participation of the Republic of Croatia in the European Economic Area, the Additional Protocol to the Agreement between the Kingdom of Norway and the European Union on a Norwegian Financial Mechanism for the period 2009-2014 consequent to the participation of the Republic of Croatia in the European Economic Area, the Additional Protocol to the Agreement between the European Economic Community and Iceland consequent to the accession of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union, and the Additional Protocol to the Agreement between the European Economic Community and the Kingdom of Norway consequent to the accession of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union are hereby approved on behalf of the Union (3).

Article 2

The President of the Council shall, on behalf of the Union, deposit the instruments of approval provided for in the Agreement and each of the related Protocols.

Article 3

This Decision shall enter into force on the day of its adoption.
