on the appointment of the Chair of the Authority for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism

THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION,

Having regard to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union,

Having regard to Regulation (EU) 2024/1620 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 31 May 2024 establishing the Authority for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism and amending Regulations (EU) No 1093/2010, (EU) No 1094/2010 and (EU) No 1095/2010 (1), and in particular Article 68 thereof,

Having regard to the proposal from the European Commission,

Having regard to the approval by the European Parliament,

Whereas:

(1) Pursuant to Article 68(1) of Regulation (EU) 2024/1620, on 9 October 2024, the Commission prepared a shortlist of candidates for appointment as the Chair of the Authority for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (‘the Chair’) and provided it to the European Parliament.

(2) The Council was informed of the shortlist on the same day.

(3) Pursuant to Article 68(3) of Regulation (EU) 2024/1620, the term of office of the Chair is to be four years.

(4) Pursuant to Article 68(1) of Regulation (EU) 2024/1620, on 6 December 2024, the Commission made a proposal for the appointment of Ms Bruna SZEGO as the Chair (‘the proposal’) and submitted that proposal to the European Parliament for approval.

(5) On 18 December 2024, the European Parliament approved the proposal.

(6) Ms Bruna SZEGO should therefore be appointed as the Chair for a term of office of four years,

HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION:

Article 1

Ms Bruna SZEGO is hereby appointed as Chair of the Authority for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism for a term of office of four years from 16 February 2025.

Article 2

This Decision shall enter into force on the date of its publication in the

Official Journal of the European Union
