COMMISSION DECISION (EU) 2024/2949

renewing the mandates of three existing members and appointing five new members of the European Statistical Advisory Committee

THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION,

Having regard to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union,

Having regard to Decision No 234/2008/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 March 2008 establishing the European Statistical Advisory Committee and repealing Council Decision 91/116/EEC (1), and in particular Article 4(1), point (a) and Article 5 thereof,

Whereas:

(1) The European Statistical Advisory Committee (‘the Committee’) is to comprise 24 members.

(2) According to Article 4(1), point (a) of Decision No 234/2008/EC, 12 members of the Committee are to be appointed by the Commission, after consulting the European Parliament and the Council.

(3) The Commission by Decision 2019/C 63/05 (2) of 14 February 2019 appointed eight members of the Committee for a term of five years.

(4) One of those eight members resigned and was replaced for the remainder of their term of office pursuant to Commission Decision (EU) 2021/722 (3).

(5) The mandates of the eight members ended on 8 May 2024. Three of the members have agreed to the renewal of their mandates.

(6) Member States have provided the Commission, at its request, with a list of candidates with well-established qualifications in the field of statistics, for the purpose of appointing the new members of the Committee.

(7) In the selection of the five new members, the Commission has endeavoured to ensure that they represent, in equal measure, users, respondents and other stakeholders in Union statistics (including the scientific community, social partners and civil society).

(8) The Commission consulted the European Parliament and the Council on the renewals of mandate and the new appointments, and those institutions gave a positive opinion,

HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION:

Article 1

The mandates of Ms Marie Bohata, Ms Audronė Jakaitiene and Mr Peter van der Heijden as members of the European Statistical Advisory Committee are renewed for a term of five years, starting on 1 December 2024 and ending on 30 November 2029.

Article 2

Mr Arne C. Bathke, Mr Kai Carstensen, Mr Jani Erola, Mr Jānis Hermanis, and Mr Pedro Magalhães are hereby appointed as members of the European Statistical Advisory Committee, starting on 1 December 2024 and ending on 30 November 2029.

Article 3

This Decision shall enter into force on the third day following that of its publication in the

Official Journal of the European Union
