COUNCIL DECISION

of 15 July 2024

extending the term of office of the chairpersons of two of the Boards of Appeal of the European Union Intellectual Property Office

THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION,

Having regard to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union,

Having regard to Regulation (EU) 2017/1001 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 June 2017 on the European Union trade mark (1), and in particular Article 166(1) and (3) thereof,

Whereas:

(1) On 21 November 2023, the Management Board of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) decided to propose to the Council the extension of the term of office of Mr Gordon HUMPHREYS as chairperson of a Board of Appeal of the EUIPO. This extension should be for an additional five-year period starting on 1 September 2024 or until retirement age if this age is reached during the new term of office.

(2) On 4 June 2024, the Management Board of the EUIPO decided to propose to the Council the extension of the term of office of Ms Virginia MELGAR as chairperson of a Board of Appeal of the EUIPO. This extension should be for an additional five-year period starting on 1 April 2025 or until retirement age if this age is reached during the new term of office,

HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION:

Article 1

The term of office of Mr Gordon HUMPHREYS as chairperson of a Board of Appeal of the EUIPO is hereby extended for a five-year period starting on 1 September 2024 or until retirement age if this age is reached during the new term of office.

Article 2

The term of office of Ms Virginia MELGAR as chairperson of a Board of Appeal of the EUIPO is hereby extended for a five-year period starting on 1 April 2025 or until retirement age if this age is reached during the new term of office.

Article 3

This Decision shall enter into force on the date of its publication in the

Official Journal of the European Union
