COUNCIL RECOMMENDATION of 15 May 1979 on the ratification of the International Convention for Safe Containers (CSC) (79/487/EEC)

THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES,

Having regard to the Treaty establishing the European Economic Community, and in particular Articles 75 and 84 (2) thereof,

Having regard to the draft from the Commission,

Having regard to the opinion of the European Parliament (1),

Having regard to the opinion of the Economic and Social Committee (2),

Whereas an International Convention for Safe Containers (CSC), prepared within the framework of the United Nations Inter-Governmental Maritime Consultative Organization (IMCO), entered into force on 6 September 1977 and is open for ratification or accession by States, including the Member States of the Community;

Whereas it is in the interest of the Community that all the Member States should ratify this Convention,

HEREBY RECOMMENDS THAT MEMBER STATES: - ratify the International Convention for Safe Containers, or accede thereto before 1 July 1980, where they have not already done so,

- inform the Secretary-General of the Inter-Governmental Maritime Consultative Organization in writing that their ratification or accession has had regard to this recommendation.
