on the appointment of the EU Mission Force Commander for the European Union Military Training Mission in Mozambique (EUTM Mozambique) (EUTM Mozambique/1/2022)

THE POLITICAL AND SECURITY COMMITTEE,

Having regard to the Treaty on European Union, and in particular Article 38 thereof,

Having regard to Council Decision (CFSP) 2021/1143 of 12 July 2021 on a European Union Military Training Mission in Mozambique (EUTM Mozambique) (1), and in particular Article 5(1) thereof,

Whereas:

(1) Decision (CFSP) 2021/1143 appointed Brigadier General Nuno LEMOS PIRES as EU Mission Force Commander for the European Union Military Training Mission in Mozambique (EUTM Mozambique).

(2) Pursuant to Article 5(1) of Decision (CFSP) 2021/1143, the Council authorised the Political and Security Committee (PSC) to take decisions concerning the political control and strategic direction of EUTM Mozambique, including the relevant decisions on the appointment of the subsequent EU Mission Force Commanders for EUTM Mozambique.

(3) On 22 July 2022, the EU Operation Commander recommended the appointment of Navy Captain Rogério Paulo Figueira MARTINS de BRITO as the new EU Mission Force Commander for EUTM Mozambique as from 9 September 2022. The Portuguese authorities have indicated that Navy Captain Rogério Paulo Figueira MARTINS de BRITO will be promoted to Commodore upon his appointment as EU Mission Force Commander.

(4) On 26 July 2022, the EU Military Committee supported that recommendation and agreed to recommend that the PSC is to approve this proposal.

(5) A decision on the appointment of Navy Captain Rogério Paulo Figueira MARTINS de BRITO as the EU Mission Force Commander for EUTM Mozambique as from 9 September 2022 should be taken,

HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION:

Article 1

Commodore Rogério Paulo Figueira MARTINS de BRITO is hereby appointed EU Mission Force Commander for the European Union Military Training Mission in Mozambique (EUTM Mozambique) as from 9 September 2022.

Article 2

This Decision shall enter into force on the date of its adoption.
