on the appointment of the EU Mission Force Commander for the European Union military partnership mission in Niger (EUMPM Niger) (EUMPM Niger/1/2023)

THE POLITICAL AND SECURITY COMMITTEE,

Having regard to the Treaty on European Union, and in particular Article 38 thereof,

Having regard to Council Decision (CFSP) 2022/2444 of 12 December 2022 on a European Union military partnership mission in Niger (EUMPM Niger) (1), and in particular Article 5(1) thereof,

Whereas:

(1) Pursuant to Article 5(1) of Decision (CFSP) 2022/2444, the Council authorised the Political and Security Committee (PSC) to take the relevant decisions concerning,

inter alia

, the appointment of the European Union military partnership mission in Niger (EUMPM Niger) Mission Force Commander (the ‘EU Mission Force Commander’).

(2) On 2 February 2023, the Italian military authorities proposed the appointment of Colonel Antonio D’AGOSTINO as the first EU Mission Force Commander from 1 March 2023.

(3) On 7 February 2023, the Mission Commander for EUMPM Niger supported this nomination.

(4) On 10 February 2023, the European Union Military Committee agreed to recommend that the PSC appoint Colonel Antonio D’AGOSTINO as the EU Mission Force Commander from 1 March 2023.

(5) A decision on the appointment of Colonel Antonio D’AGOSTINO should be taken,

HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION:

Article 1

Colonel Antonio D’AGOSTINO is hereby appointed as the EU Mission Force Commander of the European Union military partnership mission in Niger (EUMPM Niger) from 1 March 2023.

Article 2

This Decision shall enter into force on the date of its adoption.

It shall apply from 1 March 2023.
